Privacy Policy
Effective June 2026.
The short version
We collect nothing. Sumhouse has no servers, no accounts, no telemetry, and no analytics. Your financial data is stored in an encrypted database on your Mac and never leaves it.
What the app stores, and where
Everything you import or enter — transactions, accounts, categories, budgets,
backups — is stored locally at ~/Library/Application Support/app.sumhouse/,
encrypted with SQLCipher (AES-256) using a key derived from your passphrase. We cannot
read it, reset it, or recover it; neither can anyone else without your passphrase.
The only network requests the app ever makes
- License activation (once, when you enter a key). The app sends your license key and a generic device label to Lemon Squeezy, our payment provider, to validate the purchase. No financial data, no personal data beyond what Lemon Squeezy already has from your purchase.
- Check for updates (only when you click the button). The app fetches one static file from sumhouse.app to compare version numbers. It sends nothing about you or your data, and it never runs automatically.
That's the complete list. The app is otherwise fully functional offline, forever.
Purchases
Payments are processed by Lemon Squeezy as merchant of record. They handle your payment details under their own privacy policy; we receive your order details (name, email, license key) so we can support you, and nothing more.
This website
sumhouse.app uses no cookies, no analytics, and no trackers. Standard web-server logs may be kept briefly by our hosting provider for security and abuse prevention.
Support email
If you email support@sumhouse.app, we keep the correspondence so we can help you. We never ask for your passphrase or your data.
Children's privacy
Sumhouse is intended for adults managing their own finances. It is not directed to children under 16, and because the app collects no personal data, we knowingly collect none from anyone, including children.
Your rights
Privacy regulations such as the GDPR (EU/UK) and CCPA (California) give you rights over personal data a company holds about you. Because the app holds your financial data only on your own device and we never receive it, there is nothing on our side to access, export, or delete. For the limited order information our payment provider holds (name, email, purchase), contact us and we will help, or see Lemon Squeezy's privacy policy linked above.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the change will be visible on this page with a new effective date. The architecture — your data staying on your Mac — is the product's core promise and is not going to change.
